Volunteer Activities
We provide financial support to Junior ROTC programs and children's literacy activities. We work with hospitalized veterans and perform community outreach in conjunction with the West Harlem Art Fund, Inc.
Children of the American Revolution
The New York City Chapter sponsors The Fraunces Tavern Society Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.). Fun and educational activities teach these young patriots about their revolutionary ancestors and foster a love of country.

Youth Contests and Scholarships
There are numerous opportunities at the chapter, state and national level for school children to participate in contests, including thematic essay writing and the DAR Good Citizen Award. To learn more, please click here. The New York City Chapter is always interested in sponsoring any child interested in participating.
Junior ROTC
The New York City Chapter currently supports five Junior ROTC companies: High School for the Graphic Arts (Manhattan), Aviation High School (Queens), Dewitt Clinton High School (Bronx), Harry S. Truman High School (Bronx), and Bronx Aerospace High School (Bronx). We award medals and campaign bars to cadets for outstanding military and scholastic achievement and attend award ceremonies and other programs to support these young men and women.

Literacy Program
The Literacy Committee promotes volunteer activities throughout New York City. The Chairman sets a goal each year and members support both ongoing and special projects within the city. The committee is working with younger students to promote early childhood literacy by conducting book drives and participating with local literacy groups. The committee also works with adult groups.

Veterans Hospital
We serve veterans at the VA Medical Center New York at 1st Avenue and 23rd Street. Our chapter provides in-kind support, including such items as travel size soaps, shampoos, lotions, and wall calendars, as well as funding for special programs. More recently, members of the chapter have lead multiple workshops, covering basics of genealogy research, as well as how it can help with identifying family health history.

Recent DAR Plaques and Awards
Several years ago, the New York City Chapter arranged for a plaque to be placed on the front of The Kosciuszko Foundation, honoring Polish-born American patriot, Brigadier General Tadeusz Kosciuszko.
Our 2005 Fall Gala was held at The Kosciuszko Foundation, where the New York City Chapter presented the DAR Motion Picture, Radio and Television Award to the screenwriter of the Emmy Award-winning television movie, "Warm Springs".
In recent years, we have also awarded the DAR Medal of Honor, the National Society's highest award. In addition, the New York City Chapter continues to support an American History Scholarship it established 100 years ago at Barnard College.
