Past New York City Chapter Programs

Here's just some of the exciting events the New York City chapter has hosted. Check out our 2020-2021 Chapter Calendar to see our future events!
Annual Membership Tea
"Bats in Hats II: A History of the New York City Chapter” Presented by Susan Olsen. Join the New York City Chapter for our Annual Membership Tea, honoring the achievements of daughters over the past year and welcoming new members to our organization. This year, we’ll be commemorating the 130th anniversary of our chapter and honoring that history with a program from chapter historian, Susan Olsen about the “Old Bats in Hats,” who founded the New York City Chapter in 1890. Members can enjoy this virtual event with tea party gift bags, breakout rooms and of course a virtual hat contest as we choose “Who Wore It Best.”
The chapter will be taking collections for “Operation Backpack,” helping students seeking school supplies during the pandemic.

Presentation: Alexander Hamilton & the Early U.S. Coast Guard

Alexander Hamilton is credited with the founding of the U.S. Coast Guard, but what does that mean? NYC Daughters learned from Nicole Scholet, Historian and Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society Vice President & Co-Founder, about Hamilton's foresight in creating the maritime revenue service, which led to the Coast Guard we know today.

Guided Your: Fraunces Tavern & Dunsmore Exhibit
Chapter members and their families enjoyed a private tour of Fraunces Tavern Museum and the Dunsmore Painting exhibit, which the chapter was proud to support with sponsorship for a DAR Preservation Grant.

Presentation: History, Health & Humor: How I Survived Breast Cancer

Jacey, New York State Women’s Issues chair, shared her story of survival, reflected on her family history, and offered advice on how to find hope and humor in the most unlikely places.

Presentation: "Hat-iquette"
Ruth Hunt shared her knowledge of hats and millinery history in a presentation that educated and delighted attendees of all ages.

October Service Project- Halloween Graveyard Hunt
What better way to celebrate a socially distant Halloween than traversing the beautiful grounds of Woodlawn Cemetery cataloguing headstones for the Billion Graves Index? Bring some spooky snacks for a socially distant picnic on the grounds to follow.
