The New York City Chapter hosts a mix of regular meetings an events for members, prospective members, and guests throughout the year. The Chapter's calendar year typically spans from September to May/June.
Regular Meetings: Chapter meetings are typically the second Thursday evening in October, November, December, February, and March. The meeting program includes time for socializing, the DAR Ritual, and an educational lecture presented by visiting speakers or chapter members. Past presentation topics include: History of the Sunbonnet, About the DAR Schools, Elements of Beekeeping, Purple Hearts Reunited, and much more.
Annual Membership Tea: Traditionally held in September, the Chapter's Membership Tea is an annual tradition and a special occasion as we recognize members' achievements and formally install our new members.
George & Martha Washington Wedding Anniversary Luncheon: A longstanding centerpiece of the New York City Chapter's year, this annual luncheon is a celebratory occasion to honor George and Martha Washington, and their contributions to our nation. Click here to purchase tickets now.
Spring Benefit: Each April the Chapter hosts a social cocktail party with an engaging program and silent auction. The event raises funds for a different organization selected by the Chapter; past beneficiaries have included the Chemawa Indian School, Bacone College, the Mrs. Donald McClean Scholarship at Barnard, and the Society for Women's Action Network (S.W.A.N.), among others.
Annual Meeting: At the end of each calendar year, the Chapter holds its annual meeting. New officers are elected and installed, and a memorial service is conducted for any members who have passed over the previous year.
Other Events: The New York City Chapter participates in commemorative events, including the Massing of the Colors, Flag Day Parade, and other patriotic observances. The Chapter also collaborates closely with the Fraunces Tavern Society C.A.R. to plan collaborative programs and outings.
